Title: A Day in the Life of a Postpartum Nurse
Thesis: "It would be nearly impossible to write about the many things I do during my 12-hour shift, but I will try to describe a typical day as a postpartum nurse:"
I. Introduction
A. "My name is Sarah and I have been a postpartum nurse for about a year."
B. "We take care of a variety of postpartum patients and babies on our unit, and see gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, small- and large-for-gestational-age babies, late pre-term babies, etc."
C. "I work three 12-hour shifts per week, and I am currently working night shift."
D. "Typically, I have three to four couplets each night, all needing vital signs, assessments, medications, 24-hour newborn screenings and much more. I am lucky enough to work at a baby-friendly hospital where we encourage breastfeeding, so I spend about 30% of my time as a postpartum nurse educating and assisting my patients with breastfeeding. The rest of my time is spent delivering hands on nursing care (about 40%) and charting (about 30%)."
E. "It would be nearly impossible to write about the many things I do during my 12-hour shift, but I will try to describe a typical day as a postpartum nurse:"
II. Details of the task a shift involves as the shift takes place
A. She explains to us the multitude of tasks she performs throughout a shift. Such as administering medications , taking vitals, advising the parents with educatable things to help them with the baby, and many other tasks.
B. She explains the shift from start to finish.
III. Conclusion
A. I clock out, feeling excited and relieved to have survived another shift.
B. Finally home. I am greeted at the door by my very-happy-to-see-me cat. I quickly shower, put on my PJs, turn on relaxing music, and read my book while I snack on nuts and berries.
C. Snuggled in bed, I set my alarm for 17:00 and get some much-needed rest so I can wake up and do it all over again!
This Professional blog in my opinion has a well put arrangement. She starts by telling us who she is, what her job is, and how it would be nearly impossible to tell us every thing about it but that she will describe a typical day as a postpartum nurse. She then provides very detailed information of the things she performs in a shift from start to finish.
You labelled this post excellently, I had a hard time deciding on format and mine didn't work out nearly as legible as yours! You also did great at picking out relevant sentences that shorten the story down to the basics.
