Post 4: Professional Blog Analysis

I have always wanted to become an RN, but never took the leap of courage to become one. What finally gave me that final push to take that leap was an experience I have gone through personally. My husband and I got married in 2017 and have been trying to start a family since then. Unfortunately, I struggle with infertility due to some health issues I have. Going through this fertility journey has allowed me the opportunity to see the setting inside of the hospitals. I knew that I wanted to be an RN, but I did not know what specialty I wanted to pursue. I have always wanted to help others in any way I can but experiencing the things I have seen in my fertility journey helped me find what I feel will be great for me. This journey led me to having the goal of becoming a postpartum / mother-baby nurse! The blog created by this postpartum nurse gives me insight as to what a shift could intel. I can see what I would be going into with this choice of career. In the blog post "A Day in the Life of a Postpartum Nurse" Sarah states "Feeling a bit delirious, I give report to the day shift nurses. I say goodbye to each of my patients and introduce them to their new nurse. One of my patients gives me a big hug and expresses how much I helped her survive the night. My heart swells as I walk out of the room thinking, “This is what makes it all worth it.” Having the opportunity to one day to learn the knowledge to be able to help new moms and their babies gives my heart great comfort. I may not be able to be a mom myself as of now, so learning how to and being able to help someone who can is something I have a powerful desire for. This blog gives me excitement and knowledge of what I can be looking forward to in daily life as a mother-baby nurse!

  1. It's incredible to see how your personal experiences influenced so heavily on your career choices. I actually had considered a similar path due to my own health problems – I thought for several years I would perhaps want to study the development of diseases, but over time I simply had to settle into a career choice that felt more possible for me. I'm so glad you are working towards a path you're so passionate about, and I wish the best for your on your journey for a family.

Post 10: Does the professional nursing blog fit the blog genre?

We see in the article Navigating Genres by Kerry Dirk the statement of "Let’s consider a genre with which you are surely familiar: the thesis statement." So, to start let us identify if there even is a thesis statement of the professional blog article post. If so, what is the thesis statement? We in the blog post by Sarah Cruzan "It would be nearly impossible to write about the many things I do during my 12-hour shift, but I will try to describe a typical day as a postpartum nurse:" Clearly the blog post does have a thesis statement. It explicitly states that she will be describing a typical day as a postpartum nurse. We also see in the article from Dirk "When approaching a genre for the first time, you likely view it as more than a simple form: “Picking up a text, readers not only classify it and expect a certain form, but also make assumptions about the text’s purposes, its subject matter, its writer, and its expected reader” (Devitt, Writing 12). With the bl...

Post 3:Rosenberg's Strategies for Reading Scholarly Sources

When reading Rosenberg's essay " Reading Games: Strategies for Reading Scholarly Sources" the section "The introduction" is something that I understand and go by. As a reader I was always one to just skim through the introductions and not pay much attention to them. I did not utterly understand the importance of it. Rosenberg states "If the author is doing her/his job well, the introduction will not only summarize the whole piece, present the main idea, and tell us why we should care, but it will also often offer a road map for the rest of the article." (p. 216) The introduction is something that sets the essays up and will give you what you need to understand whatever it may be your reading. The introduction is used to set the tone to the essay. The section in which Rosenberg discusses the title is something that I can use to learn from. Rosenberg states "The title. As obvious as it sounds, pay attention to the title because it can convey a lot...

Post 06: Analyzing The Primary Audience for Academic Paper

In the article Colorado State University's Writing Guide, it is said "Remember: Analyze your audience BEFORE you start writing, so you'll know what format, style, vocabulary, or level of information is expected." So, I know how important it is that I analyze my college teacher that is the primary audience for my academic paper before I begin writing. The Colorado State University's Writing guide informs us that "Once they know who their audience is, they can mold their advertising--their words, format, graphics, images--to appeal to that specific audience." Knowing that my primary audience is my English college teacher I know exactly who is going to be reading the academic paper. I know that they work in the profession, specifically already knowing how one should write for an audience properly. Therefore, they would hold higher educational standards to be expected when the academic paper is presented to them. I know that I would need to use formal prop...
